RIP Broad Street Dairy Queen

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times – Charles Dickens, and me when I heard Broad Street’s Dairy Queen was closing.

With the beautiful new Broad Street Parkway comes prime real estate, and sadly DQ has closed its doors to make way for – what else – another Dunkin Donuts. (I guess there’s still not enough Dunkin Donut locations in this city…)

We’ll miss:

  • 4th of July. DQ swamped with people in shorts, sitting on those red picnic benches, Broad Street and Amherst St. packed with cars, everybody on their way to see the fireworks at Holman, a perfect picture of summer.
  • Getting a blizzard after an actual blizzard – winter doesn’t hold us down!
  • Driving by that familiar, blueish neon sign.

Broad Street Dairy Queen

Thanks for the memories DQ.

  1. Isn’t there a Dunks across the street in the gas station? Redundant?
